London based singer-songwriter Lucy Zirins hails from the
small town of Burnley, Lancashire. Combining a mix of
country, folk, blues and gospel influences in her sound,
Lucy is fast making a name for herself as a performer and
songwriter.
With visits to Italy and France under her belt by the time
she was 18 years old, Lucy began gigging solo at just 16.
She picked up the guitar aged 12 after inheriting one from
her late Uncle and began song writing early on.
In 2010
Lucy was chosen as one of the “Class of 2010” singer-songwriters
by PRS for Music and featured in a high profile
event in London set up to recognise and support the UK’s
most promising young talent.
Her album “Chasing Clocks” debuted in 2013 to good
reviews and airplay from BBC Radio 6, with respected country magazine, ‘Maverick’
saying: "There is not much higher praise you can give other than to say that there
are not too many debut albums as promising as this” (4 stars).
Featuring the legendary BJ Cole on pedal steel and Richard Causon (Tom Jones,
Ryan Adams) on keys, the album’s original material was written and arranged by
Lucy, and produced by mentor and long time friend, Michael Messer, who she met
at the European Blues Association week, aged 15, after receiving the Sam Mitchell
Scholarship. They made the bold decision together to record the album in an
analogue environment at Liam Watson’s (co-producer) Toe Rag Studios, recording
the majority of the album live with minimal overdubbing.
Embraced by many musical scenes, reflecting the mix of genres within her song
writing and performance, Lucy has received multiple genre award nominations. In
2014 there was much interest from country, blues, folk and roots scenes within the UK
and she continues to work hard gigging and writing the songs she loves to create.
Lucy has just finished up in the studio recording a new six track E.P entitled “What’s in
Front of Me” at Knight Time Studios in Ealing, which will be released late 2015 and
she will be out on the road both solo and with her band - her ‘Southern Company’ -
consisting of Simon Price on drums, Andy Crowdy on double bass and Pete Billington
on keys and strings.
